In the Tibetan Buddhist pantheon of enlightened beings, Chenrezig is renowned as the embodiment of thecompassion of all the Buddhas, the Bodhisattva of Compassion. According to legend, Chenrezig made a vow thathe would not rest until he had liberated all the beings in all the realms of suffering.

Chenrezig, also known as Avalokiteshvara, is one of the most revered deities inMahayana Buddhism. As a bodhisattva, Chenrezig has achieved completeenlightenment but chooses to remain in the world, aiding all sentient beings intheir path to liberation. His compassion is boundless, and he is often depictedwith multiple arms, each holding a tool to assist in his mission of salvation.

Chenrezig's vow to not enter the blissful state of Nirvana until all beings areliberated exemplifies his deep commitment to compassion. In MahayanaBuddhism, compassion is seen as an equal partner with wisdom, highlighting theuniversal nature of this path, where all beings, not just monks, can attainenlightenment.

What is Filigree Thangka?

Filigree Thangka Thangka, pioneered in Qinghai in the early 21st century, is a derivative art form of traditional Thangka that incorporates cloisonné techniques. This craft involves outlining designs with metal wires (such as copper or gold foil wires) on a base board, which are then filled with natural mineral or plant-based pigments to create vivid, textured visuals. It represents a fusion and continuation of two intangible cultural heritages: Thangka art and Filigre craftsmanship.
